Easton Bike Ride
by Joe Kasimer Yesterday I skipped running to do the Easton Metric Century and 40 Mile ride, which is run by Atlantic Cycling. They put on a series of organized rides primarily on the eastern shore. You arrive, register for the club (includes another tee shirt--just what I needed), they provide you with directions, and off you go. They provide rest stops well stocked with food and directions--although you really did not need the directions as arrows were painted on the ground and you could follow this relatively simple course from the arrows.
The course was almost dead flat and mostly on wide shoulders of the road.
it was easy and safe biking. I managed to find a couple of guys my speed
and rode with them to the first rest stop-- however they left without me. I
rode the last 23 miles myself which is a little boring. At mile 30 you
board the ferry at Oxford and take it across the bay and resume the ride
from there for the last 10 miles. Given the heat and lack of company I
opted to do 40, for which I averaged 16.0. I was so focused on maintaining
16 mph that I missed the final turn and did 2 miles extra.
These are nice rides and we should probably plan on doing some more of them
next year now that I am on the mailing list.
