K-Man Century Bike
On Saturday October 1, 2005, race
director Eric (Mr. K) Kinneman gave the starting commands, and the first
annual K-Man Century Bike Ride took off from National Airport. The route
went through Shirlington, where Mr. K and junior Mr. K (Joe Kasimer) picked
up Ken (Baby K) Garrison and continued out the w o and d trail, with
intermediate stops in Reston and Leesburg (the mini-mart, where you can
drink hurricane beer at 8 am) until arriving at the half way point in
Purceville. After an excellent breakfast of omelets at the Purceville
Family Restaurant, the assorted Ks headed back and retraced their steps to
National, with stops at Parlows store (no barbecue thanks) and Whole Foods
in Vienna. Due to Mr. K's excellent navigation, the group landed back at
National with only .3 miles left to hit the magic 100 barrier. Ken then
returned to Shirlington to ensure that he had hit the century mark as well.
It was a nice ride, although over territory far too familiar after a summer of biking. Nevertheless, the weather was perfect, and the company unmatched, and next year people without a "K" in their name will be permitted to ride as well. Great job by Eric to set this up, plan the route down to .3 miles and picking good rest stops.
