Van Metre 5 Mile Run The Van Metre 5 Mile Run was held on the rainiest day ever - Saturday, October 8th. We had not had any measurable rain for what seemed like forever and it all must have come down that day. It seemed liked it anyway because it poured like crazy the night before and rained during the entire race. Despite the duck weather many people came out to run and volunteer for a good cause - Children's Hospital. This was the 14th year the race was run and the race organizers were hoping to raise $200,000. Over 200 runners participated in the 5 mile event and there were over 100 participants in the fun run/walk. The course was monitored by many volunteers also out there in the rain. In addition to having to run through or around puddles, there was also a really gross dead snake on the course as well as a bunch of squished frogs. After the race there was plenty to eat and drink. My only complaint was that I could have used a second water stop on the course. Maybe they thought that with the rain coming down like it was that one stop was enough, which it probably was. (I think I am just always thirsty!) |
