Van Metre 5 Mile Run This year the run took place in the Spring to kick off the new 5 event Loudoun Race series. In the past this event took place in early October. The morning started out rather chilly but warmed up during the run. By the end however the wind picked up a bit and I was chilly again. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day for a run. Much nicer than the previous event (about a year and a half before) where it rained the entire time and I had to dodge dead snakes and frogs on the race course! The course was a bit different from the previous also. There was the same nice hill near the beginning but the ending changed. The course goes through the Broadlands community and lots of people were out cheering everyone on. There was also a much larger turnout for this year's event also. Maybe they came out for the food... The after race refreshments seemed to be never ending. There was a new shopping center opening up in Ashburn - we ran by it on the course - and many of the vendors had stands with taste testing going on. Besides the usual bagels and fruit there was pizza, donuts, Cajun, Caribbean, and Asian to choose from. As always a very nice event and of course always a good cause - Children's Hospital. |
